The shells you will find here were all found on the beach and in the shallows of the Bay of Marathon in  Aegina. Shells are mainly divided into two big classes:

, with very varied shells built like those of the snail. Of these I have found 143 different shells belonging to 24 families.

, which have two mostly symmetrical parts held together by the muscle of the animal inside. Of these shells I have found 93 species belonging to 32 families .

Of a third small class, the                        or tusk shells,
I have only found 3 species belonging to 1family.

Note: in the following pages you will see photographs of the shells with underneath the scientific name and the dimensions (width-height-thickness) of the biggest shell of that species I have found in the Bay of Marathon.
